What is the Academy program and what are the benefits?
The Academy Program is the transition stage between the Recreational Program of Danville SC and the travel side. The Danville SC Academy is for players with above average skills and a strong desire to further enhance their abilities and love for the game. It provides a higher level of playing and training than DSC’s Recreational Program by grouping players of similar abilities in training and in matches while being observed and trained by high quality coaches with experience in the game.
Academy players will participate in smaller sided games, under differing conditions, that will promote the qualities that we look for in our youth players. By allowing for more touches on the ball, more creativity with the ball, more individual problem solving in the game environment; players are provided with a greater opportunity for successful development.
While competitiveness is an integral part of the game, the main goal is the technical and individual development of our players. The Danville SC staff's primary focus is to ensure that our young players have a strong foundation in the basic soccer movements and soccer concepts that they can build on as they grow as players.
This program will provide players with an opportunity to focus on technical and tactical development in a professional training environment. While there is increased competition, our emphasis is on developing complete and confident players who are not afraid to take risks. This format encourages players to develop ball mastery and individual player creativity in a fun, yet educational environment. Social, physical, and cognitive development, as well as the style of play, will be the priorities of each season.
What is the time commitment?
Academy teams play in two seasons per year. The Fall season lasts from late August to early November. The Spring season lasts from mid March to mid May. There will be 2-60 min training sessions per week and will play in a variety of tournaments, festivals, friendlies, and intra-club games.
